  • With the message highlighted in the preview pane, or opened to view, click the Phish Alert icon.  A copy of the message will forward be forwarded to the Information Security team (infosec@albany.edu) and the message will be deleted automatically from your email account.

Outlook Client (Windows

...

and Mac)

  • In the Outlook client, the Phish Alert feature is available in both the opened message and on the top right corner of the Home ribbon. Clicking on the "Phish Alert icon " selects the email you have highlighted or opened and displays a prompt asking you confirm that you want to report the message. Selecting "Yes" Doing so will result in the message being forwarded to infosec@albany.edu and deleting the copy of the message in deleted from your email account. A "Thank You" pop-up will appear confirming that the message was forwarded. Selecting "No," results in no action.

OWA

  • In OWA (as in Outlook) you will find the link embedded in the email, located just between the To: field in the message header and the body of the email. Otherwise, the behavior is similar to that described above.

Email Filters and Future Messages

  • Please note that forwarding a copy of a suspicious email does not create any rules or filters that would apply to future messages, even ones identical to the forwarded message.

Not finding the Phish Alert icon when using Outlook?

  • This is a new feature available on October 8, 2016.  You may need to restart the Outlook client to display the Phish Alert tool on the Home ribbon.  Once the Phish Alert appears, it will be available whenever you use Outlook.
