To spawn a terminal session, you can use PuTTY or X2Go and VcXsrv on Windows, to spawn a Desktop session you can use X2Go on Windows. On mac, you can use your terminal with XQuartz for X11 Forwarding and a terminal session, or X2Go to spawn a desktop session. More details below.
