Q: How will I know whether to install Windows 11 or Windows 10 22H2?

A: Software Center should only update to install the latest operating system your computer can support. You can safely install whichever update is listed there. 

Q: Windows 11 and Windows 10 22H2 are both listed in Software Center. What should I do?

A: Windows 10 22H2 will ensure your computer is running a supported operating system until June 2024October 2025. ITS will work with your department on how to complete your transition to Windows 11.

A: Running a supported operating system is required by SUNY and University policies. It's also industry standard and best practice, as it ensures your computer will receive critical security and privacy updates and be compatible with the latest apps.

Q: Can the OS be upgraded on remote devices (laptop at home)?

A: ITS recommends an OS upgrade be performed on the universities physical network (bring remote devices to campus) for the most reliable experience.  In order to upgrade the OS on a remote device the device must be connected to the university VPN.
