This is an issue that has been coming up recently when a student is able to connect to UAlbanyWiFi, but the connection will repeatedly switch to “Limited” when actually attempting to connect to a webpage.

Steps to Fix It:

1)      Attempt normal troubleshooting methods in order to connect. This includes

-          Checking and Double checking user’s credentials (NETID and password)

-          Resetting manual network settings

-          Make sure that under the Preferred Network list, UAGuest or other non-UAlbanyWiFi campus networks is not listed above UAlbanyWiFi

If you have done all of these things and the issue still prevails, you can enable “Federal Information Processing Standards” in order to improve or overall fix network connection.

2)      Click the “Wireless Network Properties” button.

Click over to the “Security” tab.

This is the display you should see.

Click “Advanced Settings.”

Click over to the “802.11 settings”

Now you will see this:

Check the “Enable Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) compliance for this network” box.

This should resolve the issue.
