This project will replace computers that are unable to run Windows 11 by October 2025, when support for Windows 10 ends. All computers must be in compliance with the Policy for University-Owned Computers. ITS estimates that nearly half of all university-owned computers will need to be replaced. Generally, these are computers purchased in 2018 or earlier. Consider adding a reference to email announcement to this page.

Who is responsible for replacement costs?

  • Replacement computers assigned to faculty/staff in campus departments and these RF-funded units will be funded by ITS.
  • Researchers, self-supported centers, institutes and labs will fund computers that need to be replaced.

What computer will ITS provide?

Computer replacement process

  • ITS uses a centralized inventory to identify computers needing replacement.
  • ITS (or your Technology Coordinator) will schedule computer replacements.
  • You are expected to Back Up Your Computer before your scheduled replacement date.
  • ITS removes and securely disposes of all replaced computers.
