Register a Device

After verifying your identity, you can choose to add a new device with either a new phone number, thesame phone number, or a tablet.

Verification (Verify Yourself)

  1. Login to Duo Device Portal by using your NetID and Password.

  2. You must verify your identity before you are allowed to make any changes. If you do not have your device select Other Options.

  3. Use Duo Push to verify your identity if you have your existing device; otherwise Get a Duo Bypass code. Once you have obtained your Bypass code, Select 'Bypass Code' from the list below.

  4. Once verification has been confirmed, you can manage your devices such as adding, editing and removing your devices.

Add a New Device with New Phone Number

  1. Add, edit and remove devices by following the onscreen prompts.

    • To add a new phone number or new phone number with new device you will select Add a device.

  2. Select the recommended Duo Mobile option.

  3. Enter your phone number and click Continue.

  4. Verify your phone number by selecting Yes, it's correct.

  5. Download Duo Mobile if you haven't already done so.  Once downloaded, select Next.

  6. Scan the QR Code or Get an Activation Link. 
    Note: If you don't have a separate device to follow the instructions on, you will not be able to scan the QR code (watch how to scan). You will need to select 'Get an activation link instead'.
    *If scanning the code, you can use your mobile camara or you canscan from within the app. (See scanning details below).

  7. When scanning the QR code you can use your mobile camara or you can do the following: 

    1. Open the Duo Mobile app you downloaded.

    2. Click the Add + button 

      Blue Add plus icon in the top right of the Duo Mobile app screen.

    3. Tap on Use QR Code. 

      Use QR Code option in the red box under Add account in the Duo Mobile app screen.

    4. A message will appear to scan the QR code from your computer.  Scan the QR code that is displayed from your log in device.

    5. 'UAlbany' will automatically be entered as the organization on your mobile device.  Select Save.

  8. Go back to your device that you were logging in with and select Continue.

  9. Once the new device is added, you will receive a Duo push to your mobile device to confirm your identity. Select 'Yes, this was me'

  10. Once verification is completed, select OK

Add a New Device with Same Phone Number

  1. Add, edit and remove devices by following the onscreen prompts.

    • New phone with same phone number - Select I have a new phone option.

  2. Click on Get started.

  3. Download Duo Mobile if you haven't already done so.  Once downloaded, select Next.

  4. Scan the QR Code or Get an Activation Link.

Add New Tablet/iPad

  1. Add, edit and remove devices by following the onscreen prompts.

    • To add a new tablet, you will select Add a device.

  2. Select the recommended Duo Mobile option.

  3. Select I have a tablet to add a new tablet/iPad to your profile for Duo Authentication.
