If you are using an international phone number, you must use the Verified Push or Mobile passcode options in the Duo Mobile app. Verifying by text messages or phone calls is no longer available.

Using the Duo Mobile app with Verified Push

There are two ways to authenticate using the Duo Mobile app with Verified Push:

  • Verified Push - This is the standard default method. You will be prompted to enter a verification code into the Duo Mobile app. You'll need the Duo Mobile app, WiFi, or a data connection. Never enter a code into the Duo mobile app that you did not initiate.
  • Passcode - Choose 'Enter a Passcode,' a 6-digit number that is generated in the app. You'll need the Duo Mobile app. No WiFi or data connection is required.

  1. Enter your NetID and Password

  2. You will be prompted to enter a code displayed on your login screen into the Duo app on your Mobile Device.
Note: This is time sensitive.  You can experience a timeout and may need to start over.

  3. Open the message from your mobile device asking if you are trying to log in.  Note: Depending on your mobile device and version, you may or may not see an image similar to the one below requesting additional verification.

  4. Follow the onscreen instructions and enter the verification code displayed from your login screen into your mobile device.  Select 'Verify'.

  5. You will receive an 'Approved' notification from your mobile device after entering the verification code.

  6. Be Cyber Smart:  To Trust or Not to Trust
    • If you are using a public computer or kiosk select 'No, do not trust browser'.
    • If you are using a trusted personal device, we recommend selecting 'Yes, trust browser' to reduce the number of times you are prompted by Duo.

Using Duo Mobile Passcodes

Using Duo Passcodes

Use the Duo Mobile app to generate passcodes that can be used if you don't have a cellular or Wi-Fi connection.  Passcodes are useful for domestic as well as international travel. Passcodes never expire, but they can only be used once, and must be used in the order they are created. If generating more than one at at time, be sure to save them in a secure location.  Watch how to Authenticate with Mobile Passcodes - Duo Security

Generate Passcodes in the Duo Mobile App

  1. On your device, launch the Duo Mobile App

  2. The Passcode is displayed in the form of 6 dots (......).  Tap 'Show' to display 6-digit passcode.

  3. Tap 'Refresh Passcode' to generate another passcode for future use. Passcodes must be used in the order they were created.

Log in with a Passcode

  1. When prompted for two-step verification, select 'Other Options'.  Ignore the number displayed.

  2. Select Duo Mobile Passcode

  3. Enter the Passcode displayed from your mobile device into the Passcode box and select 'Verify'.

  4. You will receive a 'Success! Logging you in...' message.
If you have already used a passcode, Duo will let you know "This passcode has already been used."  You will need to either generate a new passcode or use the next one you have saved. Passcodes must be used in the order they are created.
