Q: How will I know whether to install Windows 11 or Windows 10 22H2?

A: Software Center will only offer to install the newest operating system your computer can support. You can safely install whichever update is listed there (is this true?).

Q: If all computers need to upgrade to Windows 11, why am I installing Windows 10 22H2?

A: Windows 10 22H2 will ensure your computer is running a supported operating system until June 2024. ITS will work with your department on how to complete your transition to Windows 11.

Q: When I went to Software Center, I didn't see Windows 11 or Windows 10 22H2. What should I do?

A: Contact the ITS Service Desk for assistance.

Q: How long does installation take?

A: Provide time frame. Some places indicated it takes longer if you go find it in Software Center than if you wait for it to show up automatically.

Q: Can installation be delayed?

A: No.

Q: Can I use my computer during the upgrade?

A: No. ITS recommends installing the update during lunch or at the end of your business day to minimize disruption.

Q: Why should I install the update now if it is going to be pushed later?

A: Initiating the installation gives you more control over the process. You can install the update during lunch, at the end of the day, or any time that is convenient for you. If you wait until the update is pushed, your computer will install it automatically. This may inconvenience you.

A: Running a supported operating system is required by SUNY and University policies. It's also industry standard and best practice, as it ensures your computer will receive critical security and privacy updates, and be compatible with the latest apps.
