SharePoint communication sites are websites designed to inform and engage. |
Unlike a team site, where the primary goal is to collaborate tocreate content with a small group, the primary goal of a communication site is to inform readers – primarily for them to read; not create.
Features:
- Engage and inform broad audiences
Create internal/intranet portals, department, or project-specific sites
Share news, announcements, and events
Engage dozens, or thousands, of viewers

Naming of Communication Sites
Users have some discretion over selecting site names. Names should be selected carefully and be meaningful so as to avoid conflict with existing sites or departments as well as to conform with Community Rights & Responsibilities, the Responsible Use of Information Technology Policy, and other University or ITS Policies. Please choose names with care.
An audit log of all created sites and creators is recorded by the service.
Who can use SharePoint Communication Sites?
All UAlbany Faculty, Staff, and students may request, own, and use SharePoint Communication sites. (Access to any particular site is determined by the site's owners.)
