What you need to know

  • April 10, 2024 - Win 10 and Win 11 upgrade will be available in Software Center for users to install 
  • June 1, 2024 - ITS will begin pushing required Win 11 and Win 10 upgrades to all university owned computers. There will be no way to control when the upgrade occurs, so it is highly recommended that users upgrade before June 1. 
  • The upgrade will take 60 to 120 minutes.

ITS recommends installing the upgrade before leaving campus for the summer. Install this yourself via Software Center on your computer or contact the ITS Service Desk for assistance. 

Upgrade before June 1st to minimize disruption

  1. On April 10, 2024, the appropriate upgrade will be available in your computer's Software Center.
  2. Backup your computer before starting the upgrade.
  3. Determine if you need to upgrade or which upgrade to install. 
  4. Select the upgrade and follow installation prompts or these detailed instructions:
    1. Windows 11 upgrade
    2. Windows 10 upgrade

  6. If attempting to upgrade the OS on a remote device (laptop at home), the device needs to be connected to universities VPN

Automatic upgrades begin June 1

Warning

Computers receive the required upgrade automatically. Installation can begin any time and will start without warning. Once started, installation cannot be stopped. Avoid interruptions by installing upgrades yourself before June 1st.
