You can sync someone else's OneDrive for Business library to your computer so that you can access files and folders they have shared with you.  You can then work in Windows Explorer and open/save from/to this location directly from any application installed on your computer.  Any updates in either location will sync with the other whenever your computer is online.

Only files and folders the other person explicitly shared with you will be available to you. This includes the default "Shared with Everyone" folder each person has in their account. This also means that anyone else at the University can sync your "Shared with Everyone" folder by following these instructions as well.

Office 2013

This article assumes you have already installed Office 2013 or the standalone OneDrive for Business client.

Set up the client to sync the OneDrive for Business library to your computer

You can start the sync wizard from the OneDrive for Business menu in your Windows notification area.

  1. Right-click the OneDrive for Business icon (which looks like a blue cloud) in your system tray and then select Sync a new library.

    1. If you are not finding the OneDrive Icon in your windows notification area, go to your start menu and in the search bar type "OneDrive" and click one of the "OneDrive for Business" programs. The OneDrive icon should now appear in the notification area.

  2. The Sync Library wizard will ask you which library you want to sync.  Enter the URL for the person's library you want to sync in the format https://livealbany-my.sharepoint.com/personal/username_albany_edu/Documents (replace username with the first part of the other person's UAlbany Mail email address before @albany.edu).
  3. Click Sync Now
  4. When the process is completed, you will see a screen like this:
  5. Click Show my files... to visit to the newly-synced folder on your computer.
  6. A folder will be listed in your Favorites with the name SharePoint.  These new libraries will be within that folder.
