The following instructions will allow students to install SPSS on their personally-owned computers at no charge. For help using SPSS, please work with your instructor, advisor, or supervisor.

  1. Log into the VPN (Instructions)

  2. Download the SPSS installer here

  3. Locate the file and double click on it.

  4. Download and run SPSS Statistics 26.
  5. Click on the Open button.
  6. Enter your computer's administrator credentials and click the Install Helper button.
  7. Click on the Open button.
  8. Choose your language and click on the OK button.
  9. Click on the Next button.
  10. Click on the radio button next to I accept the terms in the license agreement and click the Next button.
  11. Click on the Next button.
  12. Click on the Next button.
  13. Click on the Next button.
  14. Click on the Next button.
  15. Click on the Install button.
  16. Let the installation of SPSS finish.
  17. Verify that box next to Start SPSS Statistics 26 License Authorization Wizard now is checked and click Done.
  18. Click on the Next button.
  19. Verify that Concurrent user license is selected and click the Next button.
  20. Enter spss-acad.itec.suny.edu as the License Manager name and click the Next button.
  21. SPSS is now licensed and ready to use.
  22. Only if you are using macOS 10.15 Catalina, you also need to install a patch to allow SPSS to access files and run properly:
    1. Go to SPSS's FixPack information page and follow the link to the IBM Fix Central website
    2. Find the download called "fix pack: 26.0-IM-S26STATC-Mac-FP001" from the list (filtering to just show Mac OS X and Fix Packs may help)
    3. Click the link to download this file
    4. You will be prompted to create a free IBM account, or log in to one if you have one already
    5. Once you have downloaded the install file, run it and follow the prompts
    6. When the installer is finished, proceed with using SPSS
