Welcome to the University at Albany!

Information Technology Services (ITS) provides the University with a broad range of IT resources.   Once you activate your account and set your password, you will have access to IT services for the duration of your studies or employment at the University at Albany.

  • New Admitted Student: You must first complete the instructions stated in the letter of acceptance sent to you by the Admissions Office.  You may be instructed to pay an undergraduate admissions deposit, or if a graduate student, you must wait for the graduate admissions office to finalize your student record after the academic department has approved your acceptance to their degree program.   Approximately two business days after completion of the required action, the University will send a message to the personal email address you provided during the admissions process.  The email will contain instructions about how to set your password and activate your UAlbany account.
  • New Employee: Human Resources must enter and complete your employee record.  Approximately two business days after Human Resources confirms you have an active employee record, you will be able to set your password to activate your UAlbany account.

Getting Started is Easy!

1. Activate your account and set your password.

  1. Go to MyUAlbany Welcome at http://www.albany.edu/myualbany and select UAlbany Password Set/Reset.
  2. To complete the Password Set, you must enter your SSN or AlbanyID, date of birth, and PIN.
    • To obtain PIN when you have a personal email address on file with the University, select Forgot your PIN? on the Password Set and follow the instructions.
      • If you cannot retrieve your PIN online, call 518-442-3700 or visit the ITS Service Desk in the University Library on the uptown campus.
    • AlbanyID
      • Students are issued their AlbanyID by the Admissions or Registrar's office, and it may be listed on correspondence you received from the University.
      • Employees obtain their AlbanyID from Human Resources Department and their SSN is entered as part of their University hiring record.
  3. Next, set the security questions and create a complex password for your account.
  4. When you successfully complete the steps, a confirmation message will display your NetID and the systems to which you are granted access. Memorize your NetID, as it is your username and will never change.
  • If the confirmation message states the password was set/reset for MyUAlbany and UNIX systems but was NOT set/reset for UAlbany Mail, you will only have access to MyUAlbany and not to the University email service.

    • This can occur because your email account is still processing. Wait another four hours and then complete the password set/reset process again.

  • If the confirmation message states there is an error with the NetID and does not mention the password being set/reset for any system, your account has not been processed.

    • New students must wait until 1pm on the next business day after their student record is completed by Admissions Office or the Bursar's Office before attempting the UAlbany Password Set/Reset. For example, if your student record was completed on Friday, you must wait until after 1pm on Monday to set your password.

    • An email is sent to a new student's personal email address when their UAlbany account is ready for activation. If you don't receive the email by 1pm on the next business day after the Admissions Office or Bursar's Office completes your student record, contact the ITS Service Desk.

2.  Log on to MyUAlbany using your NetID and password.

  1. Go to http://www.albany.edu/myualbany.
    • Student
      • Select STUDENT LOG ON and when prompted, enter your NetID and password.  Follow the instructions to enter the MyUAlbany portal.
      • On the Home tab, select Email Address to obtain your UAlbany email address.  You should also verify your personal email address and information in your account, and update it whenever there are changes.
    • Employee
      • Select EMPLOYEE LOG ON and when prompted, enter your NetID and password.  Follow the instructions to enter the MyUAlbany portal.
      • Select the Human Resources tab, then go to the Update Personal Information section and select Add/Update Email Address to find your UAlbany campus email address.  Your campus email address is listed in the Faculty/Staff Directory and it is set as your preferred address.  You can also add a personal email address to your employee record that is used for internal purposes but it cannot replace your campus email address.
      • Instructors: Select the Academic Services and Advising tab to access the Faculty Center.
  2. Proceed with any other tasks the University has instructed you to complete.
  3. Always "Sign Out" of MyUAlbany and close all browser windows to protect your information.

3. If your password is set for UAlbany Mail, log in to your University email account.

  • The Password Set/Reset confirmation message must state that your UAlbany Mail password was set/reset and you must wait at least 15 minutes before attempting the log in process. If you receive a message that your account is "blocked," you did not wait long enough or you need to complete a password reset to confirm your password was set/reset for UAlbany Mail.
  • A link to UAlbany Mail can be found at http://www.albany.edu/myualbany and within the MyUAlbany portal.
    • If you skipped step 2 or don't know your UAlbany Email Address, it can be found within the MyUAlbany portal.
  • Select UAlbany Mail.  Enter your NetID and password to access your mailbox using Outlook Web App (OWA).
    • The University's email system is hosted by Microsoft Office 365 for Education and provides a calendar and an address book with University contacts.
  • Always "Sign Out" of UAlbany Mail and close all browser windows to protect your information.
  • Your mobile device can be used to access messages in your mailbox.
  • You can filter your messages using optional settings in your mailbox.
