Acquiring PuTTY for your PC
- Go to http://www.putty.org
- Click on the link "here" under Download PuTTY --> You can download PuTTY here. (Figure 1)
- Scroll down to A Windows MSI installer package for everything except PuTTYtel (Figure 2) and click on putty-m.nn-installer.msi (where m.nn is Major.Minor release format)
- Save the downloaded file to a location you will remember (Desktop or Downloads)
- Go to the location of the MSI file and Double-Click on it
- Click Next (Figure 3)
- Allow it to Install PuTTY to the default directory (Figure 4), Click Next
- Click on the drive next to Add shortcut to PuTTY on the desktop and choose Entire feature will be unavailable (Figure 5), Click Install (you may receive a User Account Control warning, click on Yes to install)
- Click Finish
Configuring PuTTY (One time)
- Configure the default settings (make the screen a little easier to read)
- Click on Default Settings (Figure 6)
- Click on Load
- In the Category Tree, select Window --> Appearance (Figure 7)
- In the Font settings group, click on the Change button
- Change the Font to Consolas, Font style to Regular and Size to 20, Click OK - This is an easy to read font at a reasonable font size
- In the Category Tree, select Session
- Click on Default Settings (Figure 6)
- Click on Save
- Create an entry for PS Production and Development Process Schedulers
- Enter pspps002.itsli.albany.edu into the Host Name (or IP address) textbox (Figure 8)
- Enter PS Production Process Scheduler in the Saved Sessions textbox
- Click on the Save button
- Enter psdps002.itsli.albany.edu into the Host Name (or IP address) textbox (Figure 8)
- Enter PS Development Process Scheduler in the Saved Settings textbox
- Click on the Save button
- Click Cancel to close PuTTY
Starting PuTTY
- Click on Start
- Click on All Programs
- Click on the PuTTY group
- Click on PuTTY
- Click on a Saved Session
- Click Load
- Click Open
