What you need to know

All devices on the University network must be running on a supported operating system. On June 1, 2024, ITS will begin pushing required Win11 upgrade and Win10 updates to all university-owed computers. Computers that are too old to accommodate Win11 will receive the Win10 update instead.

Upgrade/Update in May to minimize disruption

Update your university-owned machine beginning on May 1, 2024 to minimize disruption to your work. Do this yourself using your computer's Software Center, or contact the ITS Service Desk for assistance.  ITS strongly suggests installing the appropriate updates before leaving for the summer to minimize disruption in the Fall.

What happens after June 1, 2024

Computers receive the required update automatically. Installation can begin any time and will start without warning. Once started, installation cannot be stopped. Avoid interruptions by installing upgrades/updates early.

Get Started

  1. On May 1, 2024, the appropriate upgrade will be available in your computer's Software Center. Is there a link about finding Software Center?
  2. Select the update and follow the installation prompts or these detailed instructions:
    1. Software Center - Windows 11 Enterprise 22H2  In-Place Update
    2. Updating Windows 10 to version 21H2
  3. For assistance with installation, contact the ITS Service Desk or visit our FAQ page.

Upgrade Tips

  • Backup all data before starting the upgrade.
  • The upgrade can take up to 3 hours. Minimize downtown by installing it at the end of the day so it completes overnight.
  • When the process completes, make sure your computer upgraded successfully. Is there a link for this?
