Follow these steps to determine which version of Microsoft Office is running on your computer.

Instructions

Windows users

Follow these instructions on the Office support site for finding out which version of Office you're using.

  1. Open any Office application, such as Word, and start a new blank document. 
  2. Then select File:
  3. Click Account:

    If you do not have Account, click Help instead to see which version of Office you are running.

  4. Click About Word:

  5. On the window that pops up, you'll see the version you are running:

Mac users

Follow the instructions on the Office support site for determining your version of Microsoft Office. When you view your version number, keep in mind that:

  • Microsoft Office 2019 for Mac starts with version number 16.17 or higher
  • Microsoft Office 2016 for Mac starts with version numbers 15.x through 16.16
  • Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac starts with version number 14.x
    1. Go to Outlook and choose About Outlook.
    2. In the dialog box that opens, you can see the version number as well as the license type. In the example below, the version number is 16.50 and the license is UAlbany's Microsoft 365 Subscription:

    3. UAlbany-managed and personally-owned Mac computers should be using Microsoft 365 Subscription. If you have an older version of Office on your Mac computer, follow these instructions to get Microsoft 365 Apps.
