FileVault Encryption for University-Owned Macs
FileVault is a built-in macOS feature that protects your data by encrypting your entire drive. To enhance security, FileVault will now be enabled on all University-owned Mac computers.
Simply log in as usual, and your data will encrypt in the background.
Once ITS enables this feature, You will see the following dialog box the first time you log in.
If you are prompted to enable FileVault, click Enable Now.
Once the process begins, click OK to continue. Encryption will complete in the background and will not impact performance.
When FileVault is enabled, an encryption key is generated and securely synced to JAMF Pro, ITS' Apple management software. This key can be used to help users unlock their devices should you have an issue with your personal credentials.
Note: If you already have FileVault enabled, you will be prompted to sync your encryption key with ITS. When you see the prompt, click Next and enter your password to complete the process. No re-encryption is required.
Enter the Password as prompted.
If successful, you will see the following message:
If you are unable to re-synchronize this way, please contact the ITS Service Desk or call 518-442-3700.
