This page provides common answers for Reduced Functionality Mode in Microsoft 365 (M365).

What is Reduced Functionality Mode in M365?

In reduced functionality mode, you can open, view, and print your existing Microsoft Office files. You will be unable to use most of the other features including the ability to create, save, or edit files.

What causes Reduced Functionality Mode?

If you do not have a license for M365 Apps, or if you have activated M365 (using 2-Step Login with Duo), but then do not use M365 apps on a computer for 30 consecutive days or more, the programs will enter reduced functionality mode.

How can I restore Full Functionality to M365 Apps?

In order to return to full functionality you need to activate M365 by signing in with your UAlbany credentials. Once this is verified, full functionality is returned to the programs.
