The following instructions will allow students to install SPSS on their personally-owned computers at no charge. For help using SPSS, please work with your instructor, advisor, or supervisor.
- Log into the VPN (Instructions)
- Download the SPSS installer here
- Locate the file and double click on it.
- Click on the Open button.
- Enter your computer's administrator credentials and click the Install Helper button.
- Click on the Open button.
- Choose your language and click on the OK button.
- Click on the Next button.
- Click on the radio button next to I accept the terms in the license agreement and click the Next button.
- Click on the Next button.
- Click on the Next button.
- Click on the Next button.
- Click on the Next button.
- Click the Install button.
- Let the installation of SPSS finish.
- Verify that box next to Start SPSS Statistics 26 License Authorization Wizard now is checked and click Done.
- Click on the Next button.
- Verify that Concurrent user license is selected and click the Next button.
- Enter spss-acad.itec.suny.edu as the License Manager name and click the Next button.
- SPSS is now licensed and ready to use.
- Only if you are using macOS 10.15 Catalina, you also need to install a patch to allow SPSS to access files and run properly:
- Go to SPSS's FixPack information page and follow the link to the IBM Fix Central website
- Find the download called "fix pack: 26.0-IM-S26STATC-Mac-FP001" from the list (filtering to just show Mac OS X and Fix Packs may help)
- Click the link to download this file, choosing the method that uses "your web browser/HTTPS" (not Download Director or FTP)
- You will be prompted to create a free IBM account, or log in to one if you have one already
- Once you have downloaded the install file, run it and follow the prompts
- When the installer is finished, proceed with using SPSS
