What you need to know

  • April 3, 2024 - Win 10 and Win 11 upgrade will be available for users to install 
  • June 1, 2024 - ITS will begin pushing required Win 11 and Win 10 upgrades to all university owned computers. There will be no way to control when the upgrade occurs so it is highly recommended that you upgrade before June 1. 
  • The upgrade will take 60 to 120 minutes.

ITS recommends installing the upgrade before leaving campus for the summer. Install this yourself via Software Center, or contact the ITS Service Desk for assistance. 

Upgrade before June 1st to minimize disruption

  1. On April 3, 2024, the appropriate upgrade will be available in your computer's Software Center.
  2. Backup your computer before starting the upgrade.
  3. Determine if you need to upgrade or which upgrade to install. 
  4. Select the upgrade and follow installation prompts or these detailed instructions:
    1. Upgrade to Windows 11
    2. Upgrade to the newest version of Windows 10

Automatic upgrades begin June 1

Computers receive the required upgrade automatically. Installation can begin any time and will start without warning. Once started, installation cannot be stopped. Avoid interruptions by installing upgrades before June 1st.

Upgrade Tips

  • The upgrade can take up to 2 hours. Minimize downtown by installing it at the end of the day so it completes overnight.
  • When the process completes, make sure your computer upgraded successfully: Check the installed version of Windows.
  • No labels
