  1. Open Outlook.

  2. If the Microsoft Outlook Startup Wizard appears, on the first page of the wizard, click Next. Then, on the E-mail Accounts page, click Next to set up an email account.

    Note

    If the Startup Wizard does not appear, click File > Account Settings > Account Settings and then click the New... button.

  3. On the Auto Account Setup page, Outlook may automatically fill in the Your Name and E-mail Address settings based on how you're logged on to your computer. If the settings are filled in and they're correct, click Next to have Outlook finish setting up your account. If the settings on the Auto Account Setup page aren't filled in or aren't correct, do the following:
    1. If the settings on the Auto Account Setup page aren't filled in, type the correct information.
    2. If the name in the Your Name box isn't correct, you may need to reset the options on the Auto Account Setup page before you can edit your name. To reset the options, click the option button next to Manually setup or additional server types, and then click the option button next to E-Mail Account.
  4. After you click Next on the Auto Account Setup page, Outlook will search online to find your email server settings. 
  5. The University login page will appear and you may enter your NetID, the first part of your email address (before the @albany.edu) or your full UAlbany Mail email address as your user name and password then click Sign In

  6. If Outlook is able to set up your account, you'll see the following text: “Congratulations! Your email account is successfully configured and is ready to use.” Click Finish.

Follow the instructions below to re-configure Outlook and remove your account configured with Basic Authentication so that it uses Modern Authentication instead.

Create a new Outlook profile

  1. Create a new Outlook profile.  Give it a different name so you can tell the new one apart from your old one.

  2. Once you have completed the steps in the article above, open Outlook to begin downloading your content and very everything works properly.  Once you verify, you can remove your old profile.

Remove your old Outlook profile

  1. Close Outlook if it’s running.

  2. In Windows, click Start > Control Panel or search for and open Control Panel.

  3. Open Mail or Mail (Microsoft Outlook).

  4. Click Show Profiles:

  5. Select your old profile and click Remove:

  6. Click OK to close the window.

  7. You may now use Outlook with your other profile.
