Instructions

See Microsoft's steps at Add a Departmental (shared) Mailbox to the Outlook Mobile app for iOS or Android

Additional information

Currently, there is no supported way to add a Departmental Mailbox to a mobile device's native mail program.  However, there is a workaround to access a Departmental Mailbox via your device's browser (Safari, Chrome, etc.):

  1. Log into mail.albany.edu
  2. Request the desktop version of the site (via long hold on the new tab icon)
  3. Log into the Departmental Mailbox.
  4. Once you do that, the URL will be something like the following (substitute your mailbox alias for MAILBOXALIAS)
    https://outlook.office.com/mail/MAILBOXALIAS@albany.edu/inbox
  5. Alternatively, copy and paste that above address, substituting your Departmental Mailbox alias (the part before @albany.edu) for MAILBOXALIAS, and then log in as yourself, and you will be brought right to the mailbox.

The old directions are included below for older devices where they still might work.

Warning

The directions below no longer work as of June 2019.

Ensure that Mail is set on (green) and tap Save

Note

Note that under Account > Advanced > DELETED MESSAGES > Remove, the default setting is now "After one week".  This means that any messages in your Deleted Items folder will be automatically purged after one week.  To avoid this, change that setting.

You can recover messages that are purged this way by using Recover Deleted Items for up to 2 weeks from the time the purge occurs.
