Issue

You receive an "Account Issue" error after upgrading to Microsoft 365

Resolution

  1. If you receive an error like this after launching an Office app (like Word, Excel, etc.) after upgrading to M365:


  2. Click OK.  You will be prompted to Sign in to set up Office.  


  3. Click Sign in and sign in with your UAlbany account credentials.  
  4. If prompted, select Work or school account:


  5. Once you have completed these steps, you should be able to use Microsoft 365.

Installing M365 over VPN fails

Issue

You are trying to install/upgrade to Microsoft 365 apps (M365) from off-campus while connected to the University's VPN and getting errors that the installation has failed. 

Resolution

If you have just connected to the VPN very recently, leave your computer connected to the VPN for a while longer (10-15 minutes) and try to install again.

Cannot run Oracle BI Publisher with M365

Issue

Microsoft 365 apps requires an updated version of BI Publisher.  

Resolution

If Oracle BI Publisher is required for your workflows, you will need to install the latest version of the plugin per BI Publisher Word and Excel Plugin Upgrade.

Using Visio, Project, or Power BI with M365

Issue 

If you have a license for the desktop versions of Visio, Project, or Power BI and use any of those with your current version of Microsoft Office, a newer version will need to be installed after upgrading to M365.

Resolution

Contact the ITS Service Desk and ITS will arrange to make sure a compatible version of that program is reinstalled after the upgrade.
