Welcome New Students!

Information Technology Services (ITS) provides the University with a broad range of IT resources.   Students have a computer account for the duration of their studies that will provide access to:

  • MyUAlbany:  Enroll in classes, obtain financial aid and billing information, check your grades, update your contact information, learn about technology discounts, and more.
  • UAlbany Mail:  All students receive a UAlbany email account. Email is an official means of campus communication. All messages from instructors or the University are sent to a student's UAlbany Mail address.
  • Blackboard::  Many courses include an online component using Blackboard; some courses are offered entirely online.  All students have access to the Blackboard Student Orientation.
  • WiUAlbany:  UAlbanyWiFi is the wireless signal that provides you with internet access while you are on campus.
  • Information Commons: Library resources and computers with a suite of academic and productivity software are available.
  • Virtual Information Commons:  Remote access to  the same licensed software provided by the University on the Information Commons computers.
Getting Started is Easy!

1.  Your PIN - the six-digit number you will need to activate your electronic credentials

A message containing a PIN is sent to the personal email address you provided to the University during the admissions process.  Do not share your PIN with anyone and always keep your credentials confidential.

  • To retrieve your PIN online, go to the www.albany.edu/myualbany and select "UAlbany Password Set/Reset".  On the Password Set page, select "Forgot your PIN?" and read the instructions.
  • If you cannot retrieve your PIN online, call (518) 442-3700 or visit the ITS Help Desk in Lecture Center 27 to request your PIN.

2. Activate Your Account

Go to http://www.albany.edu/myualbany and select UAlbany Password Set/Reset.  Follow the steps to create a complex password and set the security questions for your account.

  • Create a complex password. You’ll use it often, so choose something that is easy to remember but difficult for others to guess.
  • When you successfully complete the steps, a confirmation message will display your NetID and the systems to which you are granted access.
    • NetID is usually composed of your first and last initials followed by six random digits. Memorize your NetID as you’ll use it often and it will never change.
  • Never share your password with anyone or save log in information in a browser on a machine used by others. Always close the browser when you complete a session. This prevents unauthorized persons from accessing your account and personal information.

3.  MyUAlbany - Enroll in classes or obtain your semester schedule, financial aid, housing and billing information.

  • Go to www.albany.edu/myualbany. Select STUDENT LOG ON.  When prompted, enter your NetID and password.  Follow the instructions to enter the MyUAlbany portal.
  • Within the MyUAlbany portal, select Email Address to obtain your UAlbany email address.  You should also verify your personal email address and information in your account, and update it whenever there are changes.
  • Proceed with any other tasks the University has instructed you to complete.
  • Always "Sign Out" of MyUAlbany and close all browser windows to protect your information.

4.  UAlbany Mail - The University uses email as an official means of communication with students.  Messages from the University will be sent to your UAlbany email address.

  • As the Password Set/Reset confirmation screen instructed, you will need to wait at least 15 minutes after setting your password before you attempt to log into your email account.
  • A link to UAlbany Mail can be found at  http://www.albany.edu/myualbany or within the MyUAlbany portal.
  • Select UAlbany Mail.  Enter your NetID and password to access your mailbox using to Outlook Web App (OWA).
  • The University's email system is hosted by Microsoft Office 365 for Education and provides a calendar and an address book with University contacts.
  • Always "Sign Out" of UAlbany Mail and close all browser windows to protect your information.
  • Your mobile device can be used to access messages in your mailbox.
  • You can filter your messages using optional settings in the mailbox.
