The UA Guest network provides hosted University visitors with open, unencrypted access to the Internet. The system is not secure and can be monitored by others. This network should not be used to transmit sensitive information.

Using the UA Guest Wireless Network

Campus visitors can access the Internet using UA Guest, the University's wireless network for visitors, by obtaining the password from their faculty, staff or department host.

Information for University Hosts

University hosts can obtain access information for guests in the MyUAlbany employee portal. They are also strongly encouraged to contact their Technology Coordinator at least 2 weeks prior to sponsoring a visitor or an event. ITS recommends that hosts be prepared to provide their visitors with the UA Guest password and instructions for connecting to the UA Guest network. University hosts assume responsibility for working with their Technology Coordinator to obtain access for their guests. They are also responsible for ensuring that their guests use campus IT resources in a manner consistent with University policies, including Connecting Devices to the University Network and Responsible Use of Information Technology.

Information About Technology Coordinators

All Technology Coordinators have their own procedures for providing information and support. It is important for hosts to work directly with their Technology Coordinator to ensure they know what resources will be available if they need any assistance.

Information for Guests

To access the University's guest wireless service, you may need to make configuration changes to the computer. We recommend that you document all existing TCP/IP and wireless configuration information before making any changes. You may need to restore these settings after the visitor is finished using the UAlbany wireless service.

When you are ready, configure the laptop to use DHCP and then connect to the guest network.

Guests are expected to comply with all applicable University policies, including Connecting Devices to the University Network and Responsible Use of Information Technology .
