Action

There are limits to how many recipients can be emailed in a given period through UAlbany Mail - up to 1000 recipients per 24 hour period.  If you need to send email to a large group of recipients, you can use a Listserv list.

Instructions

  1. Request and keep a "generic" Listserv list for your use.

This would not necessarily be the kind of list that has a static audience long term, so you would not need a separate list for each audience or mailing.

Give your list a name (address) that reflects your office or department so it can continue to make sense for anything you may need to send out in the future.  e.g., MATH-DEPT, ART-COMS, ENG-MAJ, etc.

  2. Each time you need to send email to a large audience, upload the list of subscribers for that unique mailing right before sending.  You can add any number of subscribers in just one click.

  3. Send your email to the Listserv list address (YOURLISTNAME@listserv.albany.edu), and it will go to your recipients with one message.
  4. If later you need to send to another audience, just upload your new list of subscribers, replace the existing list members with your new audience in one click, and send to the list again and that message will go to the newly-uploaded audience.

Each mailing counts as just one recipient when sending to a Listserv list address.
