  1. If notation is placed as a graphic, include adequate ALT text or link to a longer description so that a screen reader can read the equation correctly. Where possible, use character entity references to create the mathematical symbols.
     

  2. If you use complex equations, consider marking them up with TeX or MathML
     

  3. Consider short audio clips of the equation or notation.
     

  4. Consult Teaching Math to Visually Impaired Students, a Web site written by Susan A. Osterhaus, M.Ed. of the Texas School for the Blind.
     

  5. Check accessibility by viewing your page in multiple browsers and platforms, then verify it with tools like CAST's on-line BOBBY verification tool.
