WiFi Troubleshooting - Manual address settings on Windows

Issue

If able to connect to WiFi, but not able to access internet content, check the DNS or DHCP settings in the network properties. If these settings are set to a static number, switch it to automatically obtain the correct information automatically.

Resolution

To view and correct these settings if necessary, take the following steps:

  1. From Network and Sharing Center, open the list of network adapters ("Manage network connections" or "Change adapter settings" in the upper left)

  2. Double-click on the adapter of interest, likely wireless

  3. The Status window below will open, giving current network/Internet status. Click Details to view the IP information.

  4. If the IP, DNS, or DHCP addresses are not in the 169.226.*.* range, it is likely (not definitively, though) that one or more of the addresses is manually configured. Close the Details window.

  5. Click Properties, then double-click "Internet Protocol v4 (TCP/IPv4)" to check these settings.

  6. Both the IP and DNS entries should be set to automatic. If they are manually entered, change to automatic, save changes, and the addresses should correct within several seconds.

  7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for the "Internet Protocol v6 (TCP/IPv6)" item
