Classroom and Learning Space Technology and Support

ITS provides, supports, and maintains technology in nearly 270 classrooms and learning spaces across three campuses, including both general purpose and departmental classrooms, computing labs, and group study areas.  A range of AV and computing functionality is available for various room types.  Specific technology packages available in classrooms and learning spaces is available in EMS.

  • Classrooms: General purpose and departmental spaces scheduled for formal instruction and class meetings.
  • Learning Spaces: General purpose and departmental computing spaces, labs, and group study areas used for informal learning, collaboration, and coursework.

Technology Features

Network Access

Computers installed in classrooms are connected to the campus network via Ethernet.  WiFi access is available is most classrooms and learning spaces by logging in to the UAlbany WiFi, Guest, or Eduroam networks.

Audio-Visual Systems

Depending upon the requirements, classrooms are equipped with a variety of projection and display devices, multiple audio and video sources, audio amplification, AV conferencing, streaming, and recording capabilities, and AV control devices.

Computers & Software

Technology-enabled classrooms provide an instructor computer installed on the lectern or instructor station.  Computer classrooms provide a computer at each student’s seat.  A standard collection of software is installed and managed by ITS.

Non-Technology Support

Technical Support Tiers

Tier A

ITS provides network access, supports and maintains AV systems and computers, manages software updates, manages life cycle of AV and computers.  These rooms are available to the University community and may be booked through EMS.

Tier B

ITS provides network access, supports AV systems and computers, manages software updates, and provides consulting and coordination for repair and replacement of AV and computers.

Tier C

ITS provides network access and provides user technical support and consulting to departments on maintenance of AV systems and computers.
