How-to: Restoring a deleted file or directory

Action

How-to restore a deleted directory or file from a snapshot of my home or lab directory.

Instructions

$LAB and $HOME directories are backed up with "snapshots" hourly for the last 23 hours and daily for the last 23 days. If you need to restore a file or directory to a prior version, please email askIT@albany.edu

In your email, please specify the following:

  • Exact file(s), folder(s), or dataset(s) that need to be restored, including their original location

  • Describe the reason for the restore (e.g., accidental deletion, corruption, unwanted changes)

  • Specify where you want the recovered data to be placed

  • Describe level of urgency for the data restore

  • Describe the sensitivity of the data to be restored

  • Include any special instructions we should be made aware of
