Palo Alto GlobalProtect VPN Client Installation (Windows 10 in S-Mode)
Action
To connect to UAlbany's VPN service using a Windows 10 in S-Mode device, follow the steps below.
These steps will work for any version of Windows 10, but are required for computers set to Windows 10 S-Mode.

Instructions
Install GlobalProtect on Windows in S-Mode
- Open the Microsoft Store app from your Start menu
- In the upper right, search for "GlobalProtect" and select the GlobalProtect app result that appears
- The page for the GlobalProtect app from Palo Alto Networks will open
Click the Get button to install the app
If prompted to sign in with a Microsoft account, you do not need to.
- When the installation completes, click to launch the app
- Click the link in the app to go to Network & Internet VPN Settings
- Click Yes in the prompt confirming that you want to switch apps
- Now in Settings, click the + icon to add a new VPN connection
- Choose the following settings, then click Save
- VPN Provider: GlobalProtect
- Connection name: uavpn.albany.edu
- Server name or address: uavpn.albany.edu
- Select the new uavpn.albany.edu VPN connection and click Connect
- The standard University log in page should appear in a separate window. Sign in with your University at Albany NetID and password.
- Select your preferred method of authenticating with Duo. Check 'Remember me for 30 days' to prevent Duo prompts on that device for 30 days.
- You should now be connected.
Disconnect from the VPN
- Select the GlobalProtect icon in the notification area at the lower right to bring up the VPN connection window.
- Click Disconnect to end the VPN session.
Connect to the VPN
- To open the GlobalProtect VPN client:
- Start > All Apps > GlobalProtect
- Click the link in the app to go to Network & Internet VPN Settings
- Click Yes in the prompt confirming that you want to switch apps
- Select the new uavpn.albany.edu VPN connection and click Connect
- The GlobalProtect icon will be minimized in the notification area at the lower right.
