Action

To connect to a computer via Remote Desktop, once it is set up, you need to know its full name or IP address.

Instructions

Windows 11

1. Type "computer name" in the search bar
   
   
   
2. Click on View your PC name
   
   
   
3. Locate your computer name next to Full device name
   

Windows 10

1. Depending on the exact version of Windows 10 you have, do one of the following:
   • On your keyboard, press the Windows key + Pause/Break.
   • Open your Start menu, open Settings, select System, and select About on the lower left
   • Open your Start menu and search for "Control Panel", open Control Panel, and select System
     
     
2. This will open the System window to view basic information about your computer, including the full device name or full computer name, which will look like computername.univ.albany.edu
   

MacOS 13

• On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, click General  in the sidebar, then click About on the right. (You may need to scroll down.)

MacOS 12 or earlier

• On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, then click Sharing .

  
  

  The computer name for your Mac appears at the top of Sharing preferences.
