Logging into a University owned laptop for the first time

Action

Computers need to be connected to the university network when logging into them for the first time to allow your credentials to be verified and then cached on the machine, which then allows for subsequent logins when off campus to allow access for work at home or travel.

Instructions

Windows Laptops

Windows laptops must be connected to the network either by Ethernet cable or connecting to UAlbany WiFi from the login screen via the steps below:

  1. At the login screen press Ctrl+Alt+Del

  2. Click the WiFi icon in the bottom right corner of the screen

  3. Select UAlbany WiFi and sign in with your NetID and password when prompted

Once connected to the network by one of the means above, proceed with login using your NetID and password.

Mac Laptops

At this time, MacOS devices must be connected via an Ethernet cable for first time logins.

Once connected, proceed with login using your NetID and password.
