  1. Log in to the PC

  2. You may have to turn the scanner on by pressing the power button

  3. Select your username on the scanner touch screen

  4. Place the item to be scanned on the lower tray. The orientation should not matter.

  5. Select the format to scan on the scanner touch screen. There will be a slight delay

    2. PNG Document two sided (400 dpi color)

      1. Default for two sided or a mix of two sided collections materials

      2. Will try to recognize and remove blank pages

    3. PNG Document one sided (400 dpi color)

      1. Default for single sided collections materials

      2. Will not try to recognize and remove blank pages

    4. PNG photograph (400 dpi color)

      1. For images on glossy paper

    5. TIFF Document two sided (400 dpi color)

      1. For uncompressed scans of collections materials

      2. Will try to recognize and remove blank pages

    6. TIFF Document one sided (400 dpi color)

      1. For uncompressed scans of collections materials

    7. TIFF photograph (400 dpi color)

      1. For uncompressed scans of images on glossy paper

    8. PDF lossy (300 dpi color)

      1. For non-collections materials like internal procedural or business documents

    9. PDF with OCR (300 dpi color)

      1. For non-collections materials like internal procedural or business documents

      2. Will recognize text in the PDF

    10. Select the correct option on the scanner touch screen. There will be a slight delay

  6. Files will be saved to \\Lincoln\Library\SPE_Uploads

    1. Files older than 7 days will move to the expired folder and will be deleted after 14 days

    2. For combining

      1. Ingesting Digital Materials

      2. Creating Derivatives

      3. OCRing PDFs

      4. Uploading Single Digital Objects to Hyrax

      5. Packaging AIPs for preservation storage

For fragile documents

Use the flatbed to scan individual pages by selecting the correct option on the scanner touch screen
