Access Network Drives on iOS

Action

You can connect from an iOS or iPadOS device to your Network locations on Lincoln, though it may requires additional apps as per below.

Instructions

Prepare

You will need two programs in order to connect from off-campus:

  1. GlobalProtect VPN client (Clients are available free from App Store. See Palo Alto GlobalProtect VPN Client Installation (iOS) for instructions.)

    1. Note: the VPN is not required while on the University network.

  2. The iOS Files app:

Connect

  1. If you're not on the University's network, first set up the GlobalProtect VPN to connect to uavpn.albany.edu.  Enter your UAlbany NetID and password and log in.

  2. Once connected to the VPN, open Files to access the network share.

  3. Go to the Browse tab and Tap the

    (...) icon at the top:

  4. Tap Connect To Server:

  5. For Server, enter smb://lincoln.univ.albany.edu/SHARE (e.g. For ITS, use: smb://lincoln.univ.albany.edu/ITS.  For your U: Drive, use smb://lincoln.univ.albany.edu/NETID, where NETID is your actual NetID.)

  6. For username, enter ualbany\NETID (replacing NETID with your actual NetID), and enter your UAlbany password for the password.

  7. You will now be connected to your network drive and can browse the available folders.  Note that any folders which you do not have permissions to view will be inaccessible.
