Set Up a Microsoft Account to Access Shared Resources

To create a personal Microsoft account, you may follow the instructions below.

Users with UAlbany-affiliated Microsoft accounts do not need to do this.

Users external to the University whose email address is not hosted by Microsoft or do not already have a Microsoft account will need to create a Microsoft Account in order to log in to access content shared from Office 365 (OneDrive for Business, Office 365 Group, Microsoft Teams, or SharePoint).  An existing email address can be used to create a Microsoft account.

Instructions

  1. Go to https://signup.live.com
  2. Enter your existing email address. Click Next to add a password.

    If you'd rather create a new email address, choose Get a new email address, choose Next, and then follow the instructions.

  3. Enter your password & click Next.
  4. Fill in your First name and Last name.
  5. Enter your Country and Birthdate.
  6. You will be notified that you have been sent a verification email with a security code in it.
  7. Open the confirmation email. (The email will come from Microsoft account team <account-security-noreply@account.microsoft.com>.)
  8. Enter the security code from the mail you received.
  9. You will see a page that says enter some code verification as given on the screen. And you are all set.
