What is Reduced Functionality Mode in M365?

In reduced functionality mode, you can open, view, and print your existing Microsoft Office files. You will be unable to use most of the other features including the ability to create, save, or edit files.

What causes Reduced Functionality Mode?

M365 Apps will enter reduced functionality mode on a specific computer if:

  • You have not activated M365 (using 2-Step Login with Duo) on that computer.

  • You have activated M365, but then do not use M365 apps on that computer for 30 consecutive days or more.

  • You do not have a license for M365 Apps (i.e. UHS instructors).

How can I restore Full Functionality to M365 Apps?

In order to return to full functionality you need to activate M365 by signing in with your UAlbany credentials. Once this is verified, full functionality is returned to the programs.Â
