Handling a Corrupt Recurring Meeting with Outlook

Issue

If a meeting in Outlook is not working properly with one of the following symptoms, try the advice below. 

  • A single instance of a recurring meeting will not open.
  • You are unable to delete it from the Calendar.
  • You might be getting constant reminders of it when opening Outlook.

Resolution

  1. In Outlook, click on Calendar on the bottom left portion of Outlook's screen.
  2. Go to View, Change View, Active.


  3. Select the problem recurring meeting and delete it.  You may have to do a hard delete (hold down Shift key and Delete key at the same time).


  4. The corruption might clear up at this point (in which case, you can open up the meeting in the regular Calendar view or you may need to have the meeting organizer resend (recreate) the meeting.

    To get back to regular Calendar view, go to View, Change view, Calendar.
