 Q: How can I get the Jabber Soft phone Application? 



A: Please contact your Technology Coordinator to install the software. If ITS provides your computing support or you do not know your Technology Coordinator, please contact the ITS Service Desk at 518-442-3700 or submit a Service Desk Request.



 

Q: What is this new icon on my desktop? 



A: Jabber is your new softphone application, which enables you to utilize your computer to make and receive telephone calls, along with video conferencing capabilities. The Jabber client was installed by your Technology Coordinator in advance of your telephone migration and will be usable after your new telephone is activated. Jabber will not be effective until after your building migrates to the new phone system.

Jabber, along with a microphone and speakers or headset (purchased separately) can replace your physical desk telephone, enhancing your mobility. You need to have a university telephone number assigned to you in order to utilize Jabber and you may find the flexibility Jabber provides means you no longer need a physical telephone and may return the phone and save your department on the phone charges. Can I plug my phone in anywhere? You can plug your phone in to any active data jack on campus. If you plug in your phone and it doesn't work or says "DHCP blah blah blah" you may need to contact - network? CCS Voice?? - ADD IN LINKS TO THINGS

Headsets (Some people want to use headset lifter, include EHS cable info, is there a "Recommended" Headset?)
How many outside lines can I have on my phone? 5
Different ringtones on different phones
