M365 Upgrade Another account is signed in Error

Issue

You receive a "Sorry, another account from your organization is already signed in on this computer." error when signing in to Office after upgrading to Microsoft 365

Resolution

  1. If you see an error like this when signing in to Office:




  2. Click Cancel to close the error window.

  3. In the Office app you have open (Word, Excel, etc.) go to File > Account

  4. Click Sign Out

  5. Close all Office/Microsoft 365 apps

  6. Open an Office app (Word, Excel, etc.)and go to File > Account

  7. Click Sign in and sign in with your UAlbany account credentials.  

  8. If prompted, select Work or school account:



  9. Once you have completed these steps, you should be able to use Microsoft 365.
