Adding a new Certificate to OS X and Browser

Action

If your computer is running OS X that is prior to El Capitan (10.11), you may need to manually add the following root certificate to avoid getting trust warnings when accessing UAlbany web pages using the instructions below.

Instructions

The following is based on OS X Yosemite 10.10.5. Other OS versions will have similar settings but they may not be worded the same or maybe in slightly different places.

  1. Please download CA certificates from trusted sources: For the root certificate download the "SHA-2 Root: USERTrust RSA Certification Authority" (Expires Jan 2038) from Salesforce(link is external).

  2. Open Keychain Access by searching it on Spotlight (clicking the Magnifying glass located on the upper right corner).

  3. Select File > Import Items. Navigate to the file downloaded. Select System as "Destination Keychain." (You may need to click the Options button to show this menu)

  4. Enter password when prompted.

  5. Log off and back on to your Mac for the certificate to take effect.

  6. On some Mac OS version you also need to do the following:

    1. Right click on the certificate in Keychain Access and select Get Info

    2. Expand the Trust section

    3. Under When using this certificate select Always Trust.
